Why Peer Based Recovery?

Support for Communities.

Stories of Recovery from mental health diagnoses or substance use disorders have been around for some time, Recovery Community Centers are a new phenomenon. Our work is to provide one-on-one Peer Support, meeting people where they are  at, each journey is unique.

For a person diagnosed with a substance use or mental health disorder, the journey can be filled with obstacles. Embarking on such a journey alone can be overwhelming. The Recovery Center provides a sense of community, the knowledge that you are not alone, people care, are here to support, and encourage you.

Often, stepping into a recovery center is the first step out of a life of pain and despair and into a life of sobriety and sustained mental health. We are here to make that first step easier. We provide a wraparound service that contains many elements which can include housing, employment, education, case management, recovery coaching, or peer support to name a few. We offer support to help people off of the streets and into a better life.

Evidence suggests that peer-based support alleviates the symptoms of mental illness and promotes long-term recovery from substance use disorder (1,2). Peers offer  a unique contribution to the recovery community; they are the experts of their own experience. A community of peers is a sustainable option for helping individuals obtain long-term recovery.

Peer-supported recovery is an evidence-based practice which incorporates many treatment modalities. We continue to be grateful for the support we receive.
